Fire Up Your Feet and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation Reward Active Clark County Kids and Families
March 1, 2016 – Students who get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day are fitter, healthier, and have better focus in class, studies find. The Fire Up Your Feet Challenge is a program that offers new opportunities for physical activity before, during and after school for students and families. This spring, more than $5,000 will be awarded to schools in Clark County to support physical activity and health programs.
“Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is committed to improving the health of Nevada, and Fire Up Your Feet is a great way to encourage kids and their families to be physically active every day,” said Mike Murphy, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “Helping children understand why it’s important to live a healthy lifestyle and showing them fun ways to introduce physical activity into their daily routine goes a long way toward creating positive habits for the future.”
The challenge takes place April 11 to May 6, and registration is open now at nevada.fireupyourfeet.org. Students, families, and school staff at any K-8 school in Clark County can sign up, start tracking, and help their school earn awards. The program offers free resources, an online activity tracker, a school fundraising organizer, and more.
“Fire Up Your Feet has really taken off at Myrtle Tate Elementary. The staff loves Fire Up Your Feet Fridays as much as the kids! When the music goes on the loudspeaker during Fire Up Your Feet Fridays, ALL of our students are up and dancing along with ALL of our staff which includes everyone from our admin, teachers, lunch personnel, custodians, subs, and parents on campus,” said April Fellman, a teacher at Myrtle Tate Elementary School.
Challenge Awards help to support health and wellness programs such as walking school bus programs, the purchase of bike racks, safety vests, and much more.
